Caroline’s Lyon Wine Tasting tour was perfect. Caroline is super friendly, bubbly and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. She speaks English, which made the class easier for us to enjoy. Tasting is in Lyon, which my party preferred as we didn’t want to spend a full day on a wine tour in wine country. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking to learn more about wines from a friendly expert!

Hi, I'm Wine Dine Caroline
I've been in the wine business for 15 years so believe me, I know how confusing French wine can be! I hold a WSET Level 4 Diploma and am currently a student of the Master of Wine, the hardest wine qualification in the world.
I'm a native Californian who moved to Lyon in 2017 to pursue my passions of eating lots of cheese and drinking great wine. Mostly, I loved Lyon because it was smack dab in the middle of three of my favorite wine regions: Beaujolais, Burgundy, and the Rhône!
When I looked around, I saw that there were no English-language wine experiences in the city center. The only thing available was spending all day on a bus to visit just one region.
So I decided to change that! Now you can experience all of the wines of Lyon in one afternoon, without wasting a moment of your precious travel time in the car!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the deal with the limited availability?
A: As a wine expert I have a dynamic career and do lots of other stuff, including teaching at the Institut Paul Bocuse, podcasting, youtubing, wine photography, private tours, and other events. I love my Wines of Lyon tastings but I can only offer them a couple times a week. If you are looking for a date that isn't showing up, feel free to contact me via the chat widget, email, or phone. If I am available I will open up ticketed tastings for parties of 4+, otherwise I can offer you a private tasting.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: I understand that life happens. You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance with a full refund of your ticket price. I also accept re-bookings.
Q: How do we get to our tasting?
A: Lyon is very walkable! My house is in the Croix-Rousse neighborhood, which is on top of a giant hill. It's a beautiful walk up ancient staircases filled with artisan boutiques, street art, secret passageways, and even an abandoned Roman ampitheater, but it is still 15 minutes of stairs if you don't stop and take in the scenery. Walking will set you up to really deserve all this wine and cheese, but you can also take the Metro C from Hôtel de Ville straight up to the Croix-Rousse station and walk 3 minutes from there. I won't judge, I do it all the time.
Add 15 minutes to any Uber ride you plan to take in Lyon, trust me.
Q: When is the tasting? How long does it last?
A: Tastings begin at 2pm and run for about 3 hours. Please be on time, it's tough on me if you're early because I'll still be setting up, and it's tough on the group if you're late because the whites go cold!
Q: I have dietary restrictions, will there be food for me?
A: If you let me know in advance of our tasting, I can accommodate you with ease. It's no big deal for me to make you a gluten free, vegan, or vegetarian spread. Whatever your restriction is, I am more than happy to create you a delicious spread as long as you 🚨let me know in advance🚨.
Q: What language are the tastings in?
A: Lyon Wine Tastings are in English, but Franglais can be accommodated.
Q: Where do you get your wines from?
A: I get most of my wines directly from the vineyards, some I buy from trusted distributors. Learn more about my suppliers here.
Q: Should we eat before our tasting?
A: Please do! It's never good to drink a lot on an empty stomach. And you'll be drinking a lot of wine!
Q: Will we be full after our tasting?
A: You will be full and might need a small nap, but you'll still want to make dinner plans. Happy to give clients restaurant recommendations!
Q: My dates aren't showing up in the calendar.
Q: Will I be drunk at the end of my tasting?
A: That depends a lot on you, there is plenty of food but also plenty of wine. For some people that is a lot, for some it's just right! We strongly discourage you from planning to drive afterwards.
Q: Can I bring my kids to your tastings?
A: Children are not invited to my tastings for logistical and legal reasons. Mostly it's cause I live in a studio, there's nowhere to put kids and I don't have any electricity in the cellar so they wouldn't be very happy down there either.
The drinking age in France is 18, and we will not accept anyone under that age. I reserve the right to ask for ID to verify the age of anyone looking suspicious and to kick them out if they can't provide it!
Q: Is your dog home when you do the tastings?
A: Buffy is normally at home when I host my tastings. She is a hypoallergenic (non-shedding) cockapoo who loves people. She's 2 years old and very energetic, so I installed a baby-gate upstairs to contain her in the likely event that she wants to be your new best friend (and eat your cheese). Normally she's downstairs to welcome you and then say goodbye, but stays in puppy prison for the bulk of the tasting, looking sadly down at us through the bars of the mezzanine.
If you are not comfortable with dogs for any reason it's easy enough for her to NOT be at the tasting. No pressure!
