Lyon Wine Tastings is hiring a resident sommelier for a part-time permanent contract (CDI).

Since 2018, we've run five-star wine tastings in a historic silk-weaver's loft in Lyon's Croix-Rousse district, walking travelers through the wines of Lyon (Beaujolais, Northern Rhône, Burgundy).

The role

You'll lead our daily "Wines of Lyon" tasting, five days a week including weekends (our busiest days are Saturday and Sunday). From October, tastings will be from 5pm to 7pm, so the shift is roughly 4pm to 8pm. 

 

The rest of your time is spent managing incoming bookings, answering every guest review, managing wine and food stock, and running private and corporate tastings.

This is a seasonal job, where the summer is heavier than the winter. In the winter, you can expect to work with the owner Caroline on marketing, visiting vineyards, and choosing our wines.

Pay

€1,560-1,750 gross per month for 24 hours a week averaged over the year, depending on profile and experience. Monthly pay is stable all year; hours follow the season, heavier in summer, lighter in winter. You can expect cash tips, most of our clients are from North America.

Who we're looking for

Fluent French and English, both to a professional standard, spoken and written. English is the primary language, and we will consider candidates whose French is imperfect, if they are the right fit. 
 

Available weekends and summers. August is prime time for us. 

 

Wine industry experience is essential, WSET Level 2+, French Wine Scholar, or equivalent is a plus. 

 

You're an educator and storyteller first, but you need to know what you're talking about. Many of our best candidates come from restaurant service looking for a way out of nights, or are expats who've built a life in Lyon.

Either live in, or have a clear connection to Lyon and its food and wine culture.

​

Must have a commitment to exceptional customer service, our clients are mostly North American, and they expect high touch, above and beyond customer service.
